Spot TV

Live streaming

Go live from your own page

A show, a session, a release night: plan it in your agenda and your page does the rest. It counts down to the minute, plays the stream the moment you start, and says so when it is over — on your page at Spot TV, or on your own domain.

  1. Before

A countdown to the second, the stream's name, when and where. Share the page; people know when to come back.

  2. Live

The player takes the countdown's place and starts by itself, muted until the visitor turns the sound on — as every browser asks.

  3. After

The block says it has ended. Plan the next one and the countdown starts again.

How it works

  1. Plan it in your agenda. Add an entry and make it a Live stream: a start, an end or none (“runs as long as it runs”), where it happens and who is in it. It sits in your agenda and your calendar feed like everything else.
  2. Give it its stream address. Your streaming setup gives you a playback address (an HLS playlist, ending in .m3u8, on https). Put it on the agenda entry; that is all the page needs.
  3. Put it on your page. Add a Live stream block and pick the entry. From then on the page shows the countdown, the live player or the ending — by itself, at the right moment.

Questions

Where does the small W in the corner of the player go?

Here. It marks a stream that runs on Spot TV and opens this page in a new tab, so the stream keeps playing.

Why does the stream start without sound?

Browsers only start a video by itself when it is muted. One tap on the sound and it plays out loud.

Does it work on my own domain?

Yes. A page on your own domain shows the same block and player as your page at Spot TV.

What kind of stream address works?

An HLS playlist on https — the address ends in .m3u8. Most streaming services and encoders give you one.
